Default Arnfield Fly Fishery, Tintwistle.

I was taking my eldest back to Uni on Sunday and on the way to Woodhead I spotted this fly fishery.

Have any of you guys ever fished there? If so please could you let me know you opinion?

Thanks.

I used to fish there a fair bit until he put his prices up last year - £29, 3 fish included then C&R. No all C&R ticket. His boat prices went up also.

I've heard that he is going to reduce his prices this year - which I think will start the beginning of Feb or it may be beginning of March.

he has a website with a short video on it
Arnfields Fly Fishery, specialists in all types of wet and dry fly fishing, based in the north of Engalnd
It also includes fishing returns on an almost daily basis - well, the top catches. You'll find his prices there.

It's a small ressie or large stillwater. Boat and bank fishing. he stocks, or used to, some real lunkers and doubles are not at all uncommon.
In the winter he feeds his fish (or did last year) in 3 corners, one of them only accessible by boat. If you can get onto one or two of the pegs in the other corners you can do well. By the end of the winter, the fish are turning up at feeding time (it's quite a sight) and then clearing off again.
There are - or were - some good fish in there and some good fishing to be had.

It has a small tackle shop with a selection of flies, a wood stove, toilets and he does coffee and snacks.
Worth a visit, if you can stomach the prices.

PS he had a problem last year with a leak from the dam. Water levels fell dramatically. I don't know if the problem has been sorted.

I fished it regularly a couple of years ago but refused to go last year when they put the price up by almost 50%. Think its 30 quid for the day (last years price) for 2 fish & c+r. There's a lot of fish over 5lb in there but you have to pay extra to take these and even more to take a double.

The earlyseason fishing is pretty easy, it seemed overstocked imo but it does suffer with algae in the summer and it can be a waste of time even trying.

So in my opinion its overpriced with plenty of better options available.

I tend to fish north of Arnfield on the west of the pennines. As you are based on the other side - what are your "better options"? I'd be interested to know. Ladybower for one, I assume.

To be honest bill I don't fish ladybower. I like westlow mere and stocks on your side of the hills. The washburn valley ressies, toft newton and bellflask are all within an hours drive.

Thanks, Mat

I've got Toft down on my list for next year when the days draw out a bit. I know nothing about Bellflask so I'll look it up.

If you're up our way, give Barnsfold a go. It's a decent fishery. Frank grows on his own trout, stocks to a sensible size and the fish fight like stink. You'll usually catch there but it's no doddle.

Arnfield is an excellent fishery and you get what you pay for - very good fishing indeed
Good fishing or easy fishing on an overstocked water?

If I remember correctly, the owner was boasting on the website that one boat caught about 500 on opening day last year. Seems overstocked to me?
