Default Hywel Morgan tests the Greys FX2

Been watching this video and Hywel gives some good advise about what he looks for when testing a fly rod.
What are your thoughts on the Greys FX2
your comments and advise welcome

Ive never used one myself but a few friends have used them, some say they are great rods others have said that they arent as good as the older model. I guess it all depends on what you want from the rod. Hywel said it felt a little sluggish with a lot of line out but if youre fishing smallish rivers and not casting a lot of line this wont be an issue.
Are you considering getting one?

I don't like the idea of pushing the sections straight together, I like to give them a quarter twist to lock them.
Maybe just me but mine don't come apart when casting, and I don't tape them like some I've seen.
But you may be able to twist them to.

What do you think of Hywels way of assessing a rod by taking note of tip flex and rod bend and recovery while under casting conditions.
thought of doing a comparison with my own rods.
using 6# and 7# lines.
All I have ever done in a shop is to give the rod a sideways wiggle to see how progressive the blank is, and feel how it sits in the hand.

I reckon it makes sense if you can do it. The problem is most people dont actually get to fish with a rod before they buy it. Most (including myself) just do the wiggle and decide if they will like the action, if youre lucky you might get to do a practise cast on a lawn or casting pool. The ideal would be to use it for a few fishing sessions trying different lines and in different conditions but thats never going to happen.
