Default Tree Meadow Trout fishery

Now then guys.

Me, the wife and the kids are going to Cornwall in the caravan in August. We picked a caravan site called Calloose caravan park. It just so happens that this caravan site is directly next to Tree Meadow fishery . I said to my wife "ooh look love, theres a fishery next door to the site, I'll have to take my rod" . The reply to this was ok !!!

So here it is, I've been given a pass to go fishing one of the days. I'll be taking my 9 year old son, who is starting fishing this year.

I'm basically after any sort of heads up about the place. Successful flies to use, and good places to fish from at the site.

I'd appreciate any info received. Cheers

I fished here once a couple of years ago, but during the winter months. It was a nice, well-run put and take fishery. Not expensive, good tackle shop, pleasant enough owner. The advice I was given was anything olive, e.g. damsel nymph. I used a weighted Dawson's Olive and caught without too much bother, if I recall.

There are two lakes, one of which is a specimen lake. On the non-specimen lake, a catch & release option was available. It's a pretty little spot, imagine it would have decent fly life so dries might be an option in August.

I think they stocked rainbows and blues, but not been recently, so best to check that.

Fished it a few times, and it's a nicely run place in a picturesque setting. I'd avoid the specimen lake. i fished it, and had a couple of fish to 8lb out of it, but overall there's not much in there to get you excited (or there wasn't when i fished it)

The top lake is nicer anyway, with lots of bays and interesting features. i fished a fulling mill down and dirty damsel in olive on a floating line and had a lot of fish on C&R. some were about 5lb, and theres bows, browns, tigers, and brookies to go for. there are a couple of very large, almost uncatchable browns cruising the margins which were fun to stalk (with no success)

I agree. The specimen lake is little more than a puddle! The other lake is very interesting, I fished the end nearest the caravan site, had to roll cast because there wasn't space to backcast, and then moved onto the casting platforms.

Also, I ate the fish I caught there; they tasted great (for once I didn't overcook them!).

The above advice is sound
It single fly only and no boobies and all brown's to be returned.
You should get some good dry fly fishing with a small 14# mayfly

Cheers Mike.

I only fish at Kilnsey Park fishery at the moment near Grassington North Yorkshire and they don't allow boobies either.

To be honest with you I haven't really fished with dry flies yet so that is a learning curve I look forward to in the better weather.

Do you know whether they fillet the fish you want to take home, or is that a service Kilnsey Park have spoilt me with ?

Cheers Allan

There is no facillity there for cleaning fish, or at least not that I can remember but John may well cut them up for you.
Hope you enjoy Cornwall and the fishing treats you kindly.
You could see how much a day on the bass with Austen Goldsmith would cost, he's a top bloke on salt water fly fishing and close to where you are staying.
He has a new boat this year.

Fly fishing on a boat .
Would he take out a complete novice ? I've only been fishing since last September.
I'm still very much in my comfort zone. I still only fish still waters, and have yet to use dry flies. I know I have caught the fly fishing bug in a serious way, but I am trying to do this properly, and learn everything fully. I've just started to tie my own flies ( only lures and bloodworms so far ) and have 2 rods. My Orvis western3 9foot6 No6, and a bob church 10ft No8. Would either of these be suitable or would I have to get something else? Do you think he would hire out the equipment I would need.

Wow, you have truly wet my appetite. Maybe by August I will have gained more confidence and be able to pull it off. Thanks for this idea, I am going to contact him.
