Default Dolgellau Angling Association waters

Hi

My folks have a caravan in North Wales and I've been looking at the DAA website as they have beats on the Mawdach and surrounding rivers and a still water.

Anyone fished any of them and can give a newcomer to river fishing some advice/guidance

Thanks

Matt

Hello mate,

Haven't fished the rivers but have fished Llyn Cynwch, the stillwater.

It was £12.00 for a full day catch and release and you can keep up to 3 fish (price may have increased).

I camped in Dolgellau two summers ago with my brother and two cousins and we had a full day here. It is quite hard to find but if you go on the website you can print off a map which is quite good. The full day allowed you to fish from 8 am until whatever time it says on the gate leading to the fishery. When we went that was until 9pm. Great value for money.

It is a beautiful place to fish. When you park your car at the first car park on the right a good spot is just round to the left following the path to an open area with loads of casting room behind but it is good to explore.

My cousin caught his first fish here and my other cousin and myself had 10 fish each (rainbows) and masses of missed/lost. Caught a big Roach and a few Perch too! Caught on buzzer/diawl bach but best was a cats whisker with red hotspot head. Fish fought like mad to the end and water nice and clear. My cousin had an otter take a fish from off his fly while we were there too which was hilarious!!

You get your permit from a small newsagents in the centre of Dolgellau called 'SIOP Y CYMRO NEWSAGENTS' where Meyrick Street leads onto Finsbury Square.

Can't recommend this place enough. A hidden gem.

Hope this helps. Tight lines!

Nick.

Nick

Excellent thank you, going to try the sill water first time round as this is what I'm used to. The maps look pretty good when tied up with an OS map so I reskon I can find my way round.

Cheers for the tips

Matt

Hi Matt
couldn't agree more, the settings are beautiful at Llyn Cynwch
however cregennan lakes are in an equally beautiful place and in my
opinion the better fishing, a choice of two lakes one being wild brown trout only and the other stocked with fin perfect rainbows
