Default Cheshire fisheries?

Is anyone familiar with this venue? I might go and have bash, I have the gear bar the flies, seems a shame not to use it!

What catches stocked fish at this time of year?

It's a mixed coarse and trout fishery with a tackle shop and coffee machine etc on site.
I've coarse fished it but not fly fished it. Looks like an average stocked small stillwaters.

What catches at this time of year?
Ring 'em up and ask
I'd take some lures and some buzzers.

If you're down that way, you could also look at Meadow fishery at Mickle Trafford. Westlow Mere at Congleton has a good reputation. Oh, and Marton Heath Pools - (he doesn't stock large fish).

The best thing is the big tackle shop I have fly fished it once, in high summer, as my brother in law had a bit of a group fishing thing there for part of his stag do. It was very hot, very lifeless, very busy and I got bored pretty quickly and went back into the shop and bought a barbel rod I took a fancy too but didn't really need To be fair it seemed quite well looked after but the lakes are quite small and tightly packed and the water coloured. Maybe its great in more conducive weather, I don't know, but its not really my sort of place so I haven't been back. I would call in to the tackle shop again if passing as they have some great bargains, and I've bought stuff from them on line too.

Westlow Mere is well worth a visit.
Very reasonable rates,
excellent surroundings,
good set of lads and its fishing really well.
I work there as a volunteer on saturdays so if you need any help get in touch.
Paul.

Cheers Paul.

Looking at the website, it talks about learned being free for C&R

To be fair, it's only a tenner anyway, but what qualifies a learner? I have never fished for trout, and will get some flies on site?

I Once went to CF with my then 8 year old nephew for his first experience of fly fishing. He wanted to stand and watch, perhaps play a fish and maybe make a cast or two with my rod. They were having none of it, and asked for him to pay a full price ticket even though he didn't have a rod. We decided against this place, and went to another, larger lake who's name escapes me (dearnford)? the chap there charged us a tenner for the two hours i said i'd be there and even tried to give it back when we blanked. Of course i didn't accept it, but how about that for a tale of two fisheries.

Interesting story Brownie,
Westlow do not make any charge for children and newbies get to fish free of charge till they catch their first fish,it is also possible to borrow a full setup
and their is normaly someone about to give a bit of instruction or advice.
Also free tea and coffee available.
The main reason for all of this is Westlow is run on a totaly nonprofit basis, with all profit going back into the fishery it is also run entirely by volunteers,so run by fly fishers for fly fishers. Not saying its perfect but its as close as you will get.
Paul.
