Default curleys

had a good four hours at curleys today, mike roden`s got the place up and running just how a fishery should be.
new covers on the platforms and restocked with good quality bows and blues.
managed to get seven in for hours and lost two more, and all good size fish. one to 5lb. cat`s whisker the favourite pattern, and when the tackle shop is up and running, later this week, should def. be worth a visit just to have a look at the stock in the shop

I've fished it a few times over the last few weeks, it's fishing well and as you say the fish are in great condition.

Been twice recently and have had a good day both days. One day took 5 fish (I think? cant rightly remember) in 4 hours, some fighting really strong.

New tackle shop will be superb too, as will the caff when its up and running. Looking forward to a few visits here over the year.

Based on the positive noises from this thread and the reputation of Mike Roden I decided to give Curleys a go for the first time. First view of the water wasn't too promising as grey waves in serried ranks were speeding towards the car park. Bit of a wind-trap Curleys but fortunately most of the platforms favoured a right-handed caster so I paid my money, had a quick chat with Mike Roden in his brand-new shop, got some advice and tackled up.

Second cast I had a good take but no further touches for about an hour. I changed to a Di3 and Cat's Booby to counter the wind and was soon into my first fish. A fiesty two-pounder that punched above its weight. Fed up with being buffetted by the wind I decided to try along the dam, where the wind came directly from behind. Casting was much easier but I didn't get a touch and the cloud was breaking up so decided to move back to the shade of the road side platforms. After lunch I landed my second fish that took a Rutland Cat's on a floating line then promptly lost the lure up a tree. Back casting space is limited and with the wind at 90º it was easy to snag a branch. The replacement Cat's Whisker with orange goose biot cheeks (in place of JC) was if anything more effective. Had a Blue close on 4lb that went on some long runs and did some acrobatics at distance but came to the net once I got it on the reel. Then, best till last, I had this lump that was somewhere around 7lb by my guess and took an age to subdue. (special mention should go to SKB's Assos fluorocarbon, it didn't let me down when I piled on the strain. At one point I had the leader in my hand and the rod tip under water!).

No fishery is perfect but I can't level any criticism of the quality of fish that Mike Roden is putting in Curleys now. Give it a go but take extra Cats Whiskers and some strong leader.

Just back from a cracking day at Curley's. Still being a novice, I went with my instincts and put on an intermediate for the morning and tried a number of cats whiskers, damsels etc. Had a few tugs and lost one. After dinner I had a chat with the bailiff Geoff, "...floating line, long leader, catswhisker...". Finished the day with 4, the 1st of which went off on an acrobatic run reminiscent of Flipper The Dolphin. All fish put up a good fight and by the time I hooked the last one my arm was knackered. Would also like to add that I received a warm welcome upon arriving and was offered helpful advice throughout the day from both Mike Roden & bailiff Geoff (thanks!). Fingers crossed, if I can blag the day off work, I'll be heading back Monday with me Dad
