Default John Norris Fly Lines

Hi yet another fly line question from me, just been on the John Norris website and they are selling fly lines in there sale for £12.99 just wanted to know if anyone on the forum uses them and are they any good its just im on a bit of a budget at the moment.

The next question is my rod and reel is an 7/8# so should i get an wf7 or the wf8.

Thanks in advance for any replys and a belated Happy new year to everyone on the forum.

Jim

Hi Jim, I would go for a #8 line myself, and take a look at Norris's mill end lines at £4.99, they are good value and will do you fine for now.

I bought a Norris Spey Line from them last year and it is great.

Every bit as good as others i have had at 3 times the price.

I intend to buy a couple of sea trout #7 lines from them soon.

I have used quite a few of their mill ends in my time Jim, and always found them nice and supple, they are as far as I am aware Shakespeare lines, and on some I never found the slightest fault.
On one or two, you may get a very small lump in the line, but it really matters very little.
Steven.

Have used there trout intermediat line all last year and would say that it is one of the best lines i have used. The no 8 wf works my rod the same as the no 7 double tapered lines.

I endorse what Mr Trout says I used to by the mill ends from JN for my grandchildren and they are fine. Use an eight on weight line on a 7/8 weight rod.

I have quite a few of their lines
I use the £12.99 floaters for the river in dt and wt I also have the stealth versions. And I have 4 of their spey lines which i rate very highly. (I dont think I would buy anything else now)
I have had issues 2 years ago when the coating delaminated from the core on a wf10 twice but in all fairness this was sorted by them very quickly on both occasions. I get the mill ends for the kids to trample into the ground and they too are surprisingly good lines.
I reckon its a very well spent 13 blabs.

I had a lot of problems with their floating lines (they didn't float!) john norris pro I think it was - to be fair to them they went to great effort replacing them i had 2 or 3, and eventually I got a different colour which seemed a lot better. But I would avoid that particular range in the future because of it.
I replaced that line with a pirate one before it I was using mill ends (either john norris or mullarkeys cant remember) and they seemed fine for the money

Shakey don't make lines any more Stephen, they sold their line making concern to Northern Sports, where JN lines are made now I believe, although there is a chance they are made at the same factory as mine in Redditch, although I haven't concerned myself too much by asking.
