Default River Clyde by the M74

Hi,

When driving up to Scotland last year we passed over the Clyde a couple of times I think around the Crawford area.

It looks like there are day tickets available but I was wondering if it is as nice as the brief glimpses we got looked like from my truck as it feels like a river that is on the must fish list!

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Pete

Good stretch of fly water controlled by UCAPA, day tickets available. Trout and Grayling but unfortunately they also stock. Mostly safe wading with clear casting. Fill your boots.

Here's their website

Tickets are available for the Crawford stretch it's UCAPA water. The river above Elvanfoot was closed for several years because of signal crayfish.but do not know if this still applies. It is a lovely river to fish. The next town down is Abington.it's a cracking river there.

Permits can be bought from the post office in Abington.

Thanks very much all, it just looks such a nice stretch of water and one I hope to try and get to fish this year.

Thanks for the help and I'll have a look at UCAPA site.

Pete

Pete, the rest of the upper river is just as you will imagine having seen it from the road side. I do admit though it's always a joy to see that stretch as you pass by at speed. It really epitomises 'fly water', and despite it being a really popular river, there are some stretches up there which actually hardly see a fly year round with the majority of anglers all heading for the same popular areas.

It was decided not to stock the upper reaches last season as it was deemed there were enough fish there. How this conclusion was reached is anyone's guess mind you, having had no survey prior to stocking, or prior to stopping stocking. In fact some of those taking those decisions don't fish there.

Hi Guy,

It was one of things where you see just a glimpse of a river, build a mental image from that glimpse of what you think it will be like and then when you get round to fishing there it isn't how you pictured or hoped.

Sounds like from what I've heard it isn't the case here though. I thought that on the right side of the road as you head north that it looked a little like some of the streams of the American Mid West but it was probably that mental image thing again!

It is a shame that those making the descisions don't always ask the people that fish the water.

Pete

Not far away from Abington is the Lamington stretch, and has some lovely water as well.

That area is well worth a throw.

Here is their contact details: Lamington and District Angling Improvement Association

Enjoy

Thanks for this Kingfisher28, I was planning on seeing if I could get a quick fish on my way to the Deveron in Sep but looks like the Clyde could be a trip in itself.

Thanks again for all the help!

Pete

If you need any info nearer the time, drop me a pm.

Dont mind showing you a few spots either.
