Default Fishing in Cumbria

Going to Centre Parcs, Penrith on Monday and was wondering if anyone knew any good places to go fishing?

Ullswater's just up the road. Worth a go for Perch on maggot feeder at this time of year but would be difficult with the wind!
From a fly fishing point of view, I think the Eden Rivers Passport Scheme have a few beats open for Grayling fishing at this time of year at reasonable prices. However I just came back from Penrith and the rivers are very high at the minute, you'll need a bit of a break in the weather to let the rivers drop back to a fishable level.

Take your own shopping with you.
Centre Parcs shops are crazy prices, as are all of the other things on offer.

Best thing about it is the pool.

As others suggest, pop into John Norris for info.

Unfortunately I don't think Penrith AA do visitor tickets for grayling outside the trout season, also, stillwater-wise Blencarn is shut. As has been said, Norris's will advise, it maybe that the Go Wild grayling beats are the best or possibly only bet. You may be able to get Appleby AA day tickets for grayling on the Eden from Appleby. Not really the best time to hit that area for fly fishing though. I've stayed at that Centre Parcs and to be honest, once your settled in you may as well stay there at this time of the year, plenty to keep you occupied, the archery is good fun and the climbing wall, in addition to the usual stuff and the pool. Always worth having a look in Norris's though

Both day tickets on WADAA waters

Bessy Beck might be within range for you, also Bigland.

Alderneuk near Dumfries has been getting glowing reports of late but is just over an hour away.

I think that Bessy Beck and Alderneuk close on certain days so check.

(If you do go to John Norris, leave both your wife and your credit card behind. You've been warned

Bessy Beck, is within easy distance & it should be weed free at this time of year, so well worth a visit. Alderneuk as Bill rightly points out, is an hours drive away, closed tuesday & thursday. It is well worth the drive, i travel from north Ayrshire to fish it, just a little over a 2 hour drive. Wullie & Willma will give you a warm welcome. Check out their catch report on here, you'll see some stunning fish.
