Default 3/4 length waterproof jacket

Hi,

I have decided to buy a 3/4 length waterproof jacket for this season....does anyone have any recommedations? I like the look of the Airflo Hydrotec (£99), but all recommendations welcome.

Thanks in advance..

More a hunting than a fishing jacket, but I just had a Harkila Arnsdale goretex lined jacket from Scott Country, reduced from £300 to £129. It's the mut's nuts. Bargain.

Buy Harkila Arnsdale Clothing for stalking, hunting and outdoor pursuits - shop at suppliers Scott Country

Hi

I tried my new airflo hydratec clothing today and it seems pretty good. Also if you buy it from fishtec you get the trousers for another £70

Cheers

Can't give you any feedback on how it performs yet, having yet to field test it, but I've just bought the snowbee classic 3/4 from John Norris - cheap at £75 and seems well made and comfortable.

Linky to the offer:

Snowbee Classic Breathable 3/4 Length Jacket › *January Sale › Page 1

There are trousers to go with it also on offer.

Hi CT, I've had the three quarter jacket since November, having been recommended it by a friend.

They do perform very well. I know people will say that's only two months of use, but having tollerated the weather we've experinced up here, I'm well impressed.

I think it's the clothings weight, or lack of it and being a true breatheable, that's what makes the difference.

If you can get to an Airflo dealer, try it for yourself. It is like nothing you've tried before.

Best regards

Stuart

I do.

Had a couple of Borders over the last 20 years.

For fishing and in the woods with dogs etc, spot on.

Pro,s;
Thornproof, no need to worry about thorns or brambles puncturing a membrane.
Great internal removable, washable pockets.
Really warm especially if you get the furry gillet to match.
Great drip strip at bottom, if you are wading, spot on.
Tough and hardwearing.( easy to re wax yourself, using a tin of Barbour wax. tub of hot water and a hairdryer as per the instuctions on the wax)
Still a classic.

Cons.
Only one is that they are heavier than goretex or similar materials.

I use a Barbour Border for Trout / Grayling fishing with thigh waders.
Vision Ghillie as my wading jacket with chesties.

Suits me down to the ground and no need to change for years to come.

Bought the Snowbee 3/4 jacket over a year ago, and i've never been wet and it's been tested in the worst of weathers and water just runs off it.

In my opinion the best outdoor jackets are made by a company called Paramo. They are just perfect for walking and mountaineering etc. Normally they are well over £200 but they have a "seconds" outlet on Ebay for clothing which has a cosmetic fault. You can buy a Paramo Cascada jacket for £109 at the moment. For a fisherman I have to say that while they have a level of breathability which is quite extraordinary there are a couple of issues.

First - although very tough the fabric is not thornproof like ventile or Barbour waxed cotton. It won't stop a hook driven into the jacket.
Second you can't take the jacket off and sit it over a puddle and still have a dry bum - that sort of pressure stops the jacket working the way it is intended.

Having said that it is vastly superior to any other jacket I have worn.
