Using flash is the latest fad!

You're best off posting questions like this over in the fly tying section where the pros hang out. Dunno if you've seen 'The Classics' section over there? The (modern) Classics, Shipmans Buzzer

All the best
Ant

Dapping Floss was the original material used for the breathers. If you contact forum member Captain(Martin Introna) Martin, I'm sure could put you in contact with Gary Munro.Gary used to dress most of the Shipman's Buzzers for Dave Shipman's shop. You may be able to acquire a few originals to work from via Gary Munro.
P.S. Gary's originally from your neck of the woods.
Hope that helps.

I use that polypropylene yarn you can use for parachute posts and sighters.

I have used Ultrafloss dental floss, fine textured and had it on hand.

If you smoke roll ups, whittle down a filter tip for both ends. Works on peeping caddies anyway.

You could also use CDC feathers (tips or stripped) with the benefit of adding bouyancy.

Just knocked these up very very quickly so dont shot me to show three differant materials for breathers
Closest, poly yarn
Middle, plain knitting wool poly type
Far end' marabou, keep it thick as it slims when wet or ginked
