Default Rutland or Grafham in May ?

Hi Guys

I am looking for a bit of advice if possible.

I am planning a couple of days fishing on the anglian waters early in May and would like to know if I should try Rutland or Grafham.

Would anyone know which is likely to " fish better " at this time of year.

Any advice or help would be muc h appreciated as its a long way to travel and we are looking forward to some good fishing , so dont want to go the wrong place for early May fishing !!!

Also , any ideas on a reasonable priced place to stay , when we are ther ?

Cheers.

if it's a couple of days your coming for fish both if you could stretch it to three days they do a three-day boat fishing holiday for two anglers around £175.

I prefer Grafham to Rutland, but that's just may personal choice as I think it’s the more consistent of the two waters.

Anglian water do a ticket that covers all the waters, might be better looking on their website, before just choosing one venue.

Last year when fishing Grafham i stayed in Chestnut View B&B, Spaldwick Cambridgeshire (01480 890216) joyceleach1@hotmail.co.uk

Can thoroughly recommend it, as they cater mostly to anglers.

Best regards
Jim

Have one on each! They aren't too far apart.

I prefer Rutland to Grafham as a venue, and I've had some fantastic days on Rutland from May right through to August on the buzzers.

If Rutland suffers the brown algae bloom again then stick with Grafham, other wise have a day on each. Are you boat or bank fishing? The bank fishing at Grafham is spectacular now with the invasive 'killer shrimp', but May may be a little early to get the best of that. If you are in a boat then it will be great buzzer fishing. If I had to pick one it would be Grafham.

For the past couple of seasons Grafham has been difficult to beat for buzzer fishing in May, apart from maybe Draycote. Anywhere along the west shore should have good hatches of large buzzer.

If you can get there really early, swim out to Savages and put your towel down to reserve an anchoring spot.

If you want to use a little more skill and drift, then forget Grafham at that time of year. Go to the main basin at Rutland where anchoring is banned and you can do a bit of numpty-free drifting.

If you're at Grafham, try grafham water lodges for self catering accommodation . 2 Mins from the lodge and £25 pppn. You can get a breakfast at the lodge and a good curry in grafham village.

But they do get booked up in advance. The Troutmasters final is on Grafham in early may (??Mon 7th or 14th) and there is usually a large sailing event on aswell so accommodation in early may can be quite difficult to find.
