Default More precious than oil?

Ok lads I apologise for I am, not for the first time, about to ask a stupid question.

Seems that the biggest problem to affect the southern rivers in recent times has once again raised it's ugly head - no water. That lack of water is probably only going to get worse what with an ever increasing demand especially in the south east. At the same time there seems to be an abundance of that said wet stuff in Scotland and more northern parts of England.

You've guessed the stupid question haven't you?

If it's possible to pipe oil and gas through thousands of miles of pipeline across vast swathes of the pretty inhospitable terrain of Siberia, Alaska and the like, from miles beneath our great oceans....why cannot the Scottish water be treated as that same precious commodity and be piped south? Is it not logistically possible? Is it not time to treat water as valuable as oil? Has Reg been drinking too much?

Please would one of you clever blokes put me out of my misery.

Reg Wyatt

I believe there's been talk of a national grid for years but nothing has ever come of it down to the cost of the infrastructure. The easiest (cheapest) option has always been to drain the nearest watercourse until it's nowt but a trickle. Here's the current political view (short sighted as it is)

Reg we have been piping water from the Lake district to Manchester and afar, for many years, Manchester is south as far as I'm concerned.
Great engineering feat, so no reason why, apart from cost we couldn't send it further, at a price of course.
We have rather a lot here in Cumbria at the moment, help yourself, please.

i like the sentiment of treating Scottish water as a precious commodity, thing is they do, its been on the go for years, the pipeline south runs past my house, but i think they still have the English bit to put in yet before you get any,

i tried English tap water once, tastes weird.

looks like the politicians in the uk are as inept as the gobshites we have over here -Ireland has water shortages on the east coast of ireland caused mainly by pipe leakage and insufficient storage and our crowd are talking about piping it over from the shannon - the next thing they will be telling us is to save water by dilluting it
