Smile Pattern Idea

just getting back into fly fishing after a 14 yr break and being, local to the Hillend Loch. the Lilly and Roughrigg thought these would be good places to start

any one local or know the waters that can suggest some flies/patters to use at the start of the season onwards, figured if i start tying now i should be ready

Welcome to the forum, and back to the gentle art of fly-fishing

There's a member on here Old Jock who i believe is a hillend regular, also has a blog where you might get some local fly pattern info, look in this thread for his website details, good luck.

Wire Spider

Best regards
Jim

try your usual lures dancers fritzes and damsels at the start of the season and then progress on to naturals as the season goes on remember your sedges if you are going to fish hillend june/july evenings same thing for the ruffy and the lilly tight lines
