Default Sacrificing Delicacy For Distance.

Article taken from Fly Fishing and Fly Tying (March 2005)
The fly line manufactures have ceased production of DT Sink Tip fly lines..
I recently tried to purchase a Cortland 444 DT9 Sink Tip and a Sceintific Angling Wet Tip DT9 fly line from two major UK mail order companys.
Both informed me that these lines are no longer available.
How long will it be before floating and full sunk lines are also taken of the market.
Double taper fly lines not only cast extremely well, but more importantly fish well, a salmon fly can be presented with accuracy and delicacy.
A boon in low water conditions when stealth is of great importance.
The new range of weight forward and shooting heads have now dominated the market, but pulling in many miles of *Spaghetti* before shooting a short tapered head is not traditional spey casting.
Line mending is impeded and the heavy profile head tends to land with a splash.
To much emphasis lately has been put on distance casting with not enough information on how to delicately present flies and fly fishing techniques.
I propose that we traditionalists lobby to get DT lines back on the shelves as soon as possible.

I read this and realised that i knew nothing of DT lines and there use.
It got me to thinking about trout fishing on the lakes / rivers and the use of DT lines .

Your thoughts and advise most welcome.
Disco Duck.

I use DT's for river fishing and some of my Salmon, and Seatrout fishing. The abilty to roll cast, spey cast, and mend without having a big handfull of line makes it worthwhile to keep using them.forget about the so called ability to turn them ropund,I find that it's normally had the life squashed out of it by the time it comes to turn it round.of course you cold turn it round a lot more regularly ,but i'm too lazy.
