Hello Folks. Happy New Year to you all.
I'm off to Belize in March. Ooooooooooo. Excited or what?!!!
Anyway...Has anyone been and if so do you know what the mozzies and sand flies are like there. I know some parts of Belize can be bad but what about El Pescador? Are they just annoying or really bad? If anything is going to bite it usually heads in my direction.
I am taking plenty of insect repellent with deet but do I also need to think about spraying bug killer in the room at night?

Hope you had a good one.

I was further away down the coast from where you are going (not jealous at all!) and made sure I had insect repellent on all the time as the sandflies especially could be a pain at times. They will also get you while you are waiting for the flats boats.

The worst I got bitten was while we were waiting for our transport to the airport and I went for a last few photos of the beach which seemed like a good idea at the time!

I suspect they are kept under control a lot more where you are heading but I wouldn't go without any packed.

heya, I have spent a lot of time in south and central america and if you do get bitten the best antidote to the itch I have found is tea tree oil. You can buy a little bottle of it from most chemists.......not quite as good as not getting bitten though!

Re the worste time to get bitten... Hubby & I got eaten alive whilst waiting for our transport to our hotel the 1st time we went to Jamaica. Learnt a lesson very fast that evening. Now I always carry repellent wipes and we put it on just after the plane lands! Once bitten twice shy...'scuse pun!
