How clear is the water ? If it's clear, an Apps bloodworm would be a good starter.

Also goldhead white/green or black/green lures are sure fire winter winners.

Traditionally, anything lure-wise which is black fished deep & slow usually works early on.
For instance, try a marabou viva left to sink & a figure-of-eight retrieve.
Don't forget buzzers though - trout see (and readily take) these all year round.

Don't dismiss dries either, sub surface troots will readily come up for a surface flee

You will be looking at sinker unless you see some activity near or on the surface.
Start of deep and work your way up until you find the fish. If the weather is nice you could expect a bit of movement near the surface around noon.
Slow and deep to start and if that doesn't work try a speeded up retreive. Go easy on the flash if the water is gin clear, some thing more sombre with a tag or hot spot would be better.

i would still use a floater with diawl bachs - a goldbead cormorant on the tail if the fish are deep.......

Hello mate,

Try a Cats Whisker too! Vary the retrieves and depth until you find what they want. Move around to find the fish.

Tight lines!

Nick.
