Default Your rods and reels

I just wondered what rods and reels you have and how much they cost?

Also, if you have a certain rod and reel I would love to know if you have extra spools for it and which types of lines you have set up and the weights?

Cheers

John

Thumbs up rods/reels

Hi john i use a 9-6 greys grxi rod 7/8 and the reel to match my three spools are loaded with snowbee lines which i rate as excellant and complement the rod/reel i have a 2 tone floater,a sink tip, and intermediate line which work well for me in scotland mostly used on local fisheries this came as a set for £199.00 llast year and i paid an extra £30 for the snowbee lines loaded with backing and leader loops purchased from the boys at fmtc bonnybridge
cheers chris.

Not sure why you are asking this one. Can you give more details so we know what info you are trying to find out.

For your info I have five rods from 8'8" #4/5 to 10.5' #7-9
I have size #5#6,#7 and #8 lines in floating and intermediate mainly but fast sinking lines and Hi D lines in #7
Vision Koma with #6/7 and #7/8 spare spools and Scierra Avalanche reel #4/6 with a spare spool.

Have a 'bloke' 3 weight and a greys GLA reel
Two 'bloke' 6 weights and two bloke 5/6 reels with spare spools
One 'Bloke' 7 weight and an American large arbour reel (similar to the 'Ron Thompson' Powershoot) with spare spool.
One 7 weight(freebie rod) from mag subscription to t/f/f.
One 'Bloke' 8 weight and large arbour reel, unbadged.

Thinking of ditching one seven and getting a five

As for lines, some are Worcestershires(p.p's lines)
some are Redditch lines from ebay

Same as many others no doubt, I have a fair selection of different weight rods, reels, spare spools and lines, too many to list, but depending on where I'm fishing I take as small a selection as I think I will need for that day. On stillwaters I usually set up two rods so I can switch tactics easily if necessary, eg one floater, one intermediate. If I'm out in a boat I might set up 3 rods, one with a fast sinker. My rods are pretty much all under £100 - can't see the point in spending more with such a good range available now in the sub £100 bracket. More of a tackle tramp than tart me

I, too, am curious why your asking. Is there a question behind your question, so to speak?

In general, I'm another anti-tackle-tart. Not that I don't have a few rods here and there, but I fish a lot of species, everthing from a brook trout weighing a few ounces, through browns, panfish, smallmouth/largemouth bass, steelhead, and salmon.

Essentially, I have 5 rods that are in active use. Prices range from $140 to over $300. I don't buy expensive reels, I think I paid $200 for the most expensive one I own and that was with a spare spool.

There is a presistant fly fishing myth that says you'll never be successful unless you own a mountain of gear such that you have instant access to the perfect rod for a given set of conditions.

Bull.

The best trout angler I know fishes with a Redington Redfly by choice. He has easily caught thousands of trout on this rod.

Hmmm. I'd agree with this sentiment, look back at the posters other messages - there are lots of "show us yours kind of requests". Made me wonder how old the poster was. Don't want to be unkind but they are the kind of questions a curious child might ask.

Excellent. Did they load all the lines and backing onto the reels for you before you bought or did you have to do it yourself? From what I've read in the past in fly fishing groups I think Snowbee lines are a bit like Margaret Thatcher. People either love them or hate them. I've not been to Scotland for a very long time but when I was up there I fished on the River Tummel(sp?) at Tummel Bridge. Also up in Aberdeen on a local fishery on some farm/estate in the middle of the country. Didn't catch a thing in either of these places despite there being loads of trout there. Think it was because of the heavy line I had wacking the water, was only about 12 years old back then but it kept me entertained all day. Also went I think it was called Mofat fishery near Dumfries just over the border where I had more luck even with the big heavy line. Hopefully when I get set up again and get some refresher course under my belt I can get back up to the Lake District and Scotland.

Appologies! Didn't recall asking this question before!! I'm not asking to brag what I have.. I was just trying to get an idea of what other people have and use at this-moment-in-time. Was also just interested in general to get an idea from a few people in the forum. I've not been fishing for many years and am hoping to go again soon and get back into it. I just have one fishing rod a 9.5ft #8/9, Leeda Reel and floating line. I agree with the other comments about the gear and looking for value e.g. sub-£100 especially in the credit crunch at the moment.

Cheers

John
