Default Which line for my new Hardy Flyweight?

I have just ordered a new Hardy Flyweight 6' 2 weight rod and matching flyweight reel.

This is my first post, and I have been most impressed with the talent and expertise on the forum, so was sure that a kind Lady or Gentleman could advise me on what line to team up with the rod.

DT or WF? #2 or #3? Brand?

I fish a small chalkstream, say 15 or 20 feet wide, and casts (for the parts of the beat that I have purchased this rod for) are going to be short, say 15 or 20 feet of fly line outside the top eye, often less. 90% dries, say 16 or smaller.

I look forward to your advice on this matter, and any other kind offerings that people may wish to share (leader choice?).

Regards,

Ben

I have the same rod and reel. I like the Rio double taper light touch 2#.

I use the same rod with a Scientific Anglers XPS DT#3. Highly recommended. Delicate presentation, little memory.

Hi Ben, and welcome.
I have the same rod, and reel, I have a DT#2 line on mine, and it works fine, no need to overline for the situation you mention, IMO.
The flex of the rod takes a #2 perfectly.
I can't remember the make of the line, but it wasn't expensive, could have been a mill end even.
Obviously I am biased on my choice of leader, but I use my own 3ft Furled leaders, for small stream work, I don't think they can be beaten.
Hope you enjoy it, sweet little wands.
Steven.

I also have the Flyweight Rod and Flyweight Reel; and I use either a DT#2, Hardy Marksman Fly Line Or a Scientific Anglers Mastery DT #2 fly line.

Both lines work beautifully with the Flyweight outfit!

Thank you so much for your advice. It looks as though I will try a DT #2, although will bear in mind the WF #3 option also recommended.

Thanks again,

Ben
