Question leader reccomendations

Hi chaps i have been watching from afar for some time ,thought it was about time i joined in the scribings....I would like your opinions, if you please?... i am thinking next season to try and move away from fluorocarbon for my leaders and use monofil once again, as we did all those years ago, pre fluorocarbon days.I fish mainly long leader ,two dropper style on the large midland reservoirs and would appreciate any recomendations you may all have
with regard your experiences of mono.

I used drennan sub surface green for many years pre flourocarbon
Although the double strength strain was prone to braking at the knots imho

I have been considering this myself after learing that Flouro is not bio degradable.

Thought I would comment just to tag myself into this post to see where it goes :-)

I use stroft ABR and GTM and have never had a problem with it. I usually use the smaller diameter stuff as I only really fish small rivers but would recommend it.

Why limit yourself ,use fluro ,good stuff like Asso or the truly expensive but excellent Orvis Mirage ,or a good copolymer for slower sinking such as Stroft .
Match the diameter to the diameter that you would use with nylon and you can tow battle ships !

If your changing to nylon for it's biodegradable properties I would not bother, Nylon will take almost as long as fluro to bio-degrade.
If you want a leader that will break down look here. http://www.flyfishamerica.com/conten...arbon-vs-nylon
All the best.

Isn't the reason fluorcarbon was developed by the Japanese to make fishing nets was because nylon fishing nets degraded too quickly?

Nylon takes 600 to 800 years to bio-degrade so I do not think that Fluro was developed for this reason. It is however much more resiliant to UV light, Nylon nets tend to weaken after a few years of exposure to uv.
All the best.

my first flourocarbon free season in years just passed and using maxima ultra green and drennan sub surface, in various and appropriate diameters, noticed no change at all in catchrate, but a healthy saving in the wallet
