Default Does this ‘fly fishing’ technique have a name?

I came across a guy fly fishing on one of my club waters this summer, who was fishing a blob a couple of feet under a bung (which was in fact a greased-up blob). He was simply casting out and letting the wind swing the lot around. To his credit, I suppose, was that, unlike the acolytes of Tenkara and leader-to-hand, he was using the fly line to cast. I understand modern set-ups like washing line rigs, but this blob under bung was new to me. Anyone else fish it? Does it have a name? And, if not, feel free to suggest one......

Nowt new...leaded blob, egg dropping/laying blob with brass painted bead/beads tied in as a tail, under a bung or foam arsed blob with a bulky foam tail.

Sounds a bit like the "New Zealand" technique. A floating "dry" fly as an indicator with a wet/nymph underneath.

A bit like New Zealand rig, I agree. But a blob under a bung FFS!

It's still fly-fishing ... isn't it?

LOL,
With you there ft07
However, just to add petrol to the fire, is it not the technigue, rather than the pointy bits on the end the actual skill?
Is drifting glass or superglue buzzers, suspended under a large greased up dry fly not recognised as a successful, but difficult technigue in some forms of fly fishing?
seems the principle is the same?
regards
bert

It should be called retirement fishing, when you get that old & infirm you can't cast as many times as you used to, chuck out a bung & wait.
It seems to be a very effective way to fish.
