Asking on behalf of a mate who yesterday went up 2 small streams which run into our main dame which is Brown trout only and seen about 6-8 fish he managed to net a small Cock fish about 8-12 oz and on running his hand along its side he discharged some milt from it has anyone else done this as he isnt sure if this is early or late the dame is in Ayrshire Scotland

Some brownies spawn at differant times, seen them at the begining of nov and i believe that down south some dont spawn till jan,
should point out that it is illegal to disturb redds

Exactly, why deliberately net and handle any brown trout at this time of year ? Let them be.

One of the reservoirs I fish has a few fish in the 5-7lbs class spawning or at least they are up the burn , The were spotted by a friend who stalks the nearby wood.

It was the same last year!

These fish will not be disturbed at all!

These fish rarely show themselves during the season unless there is a sedge on the water!
