Default New rod christened

Thanks to a few pointers from the lads on here I recently treated myself to a new 7wt outfit. After shopping around I ended up with a 10' Orvis Western 3, a BFR Modula 75 and one of the Pirates finest 7wt inters. The problem is my local reservoir wont open till next March and that's a long time to stash away new fishing gear. After scouring the threads on here for info I realised that there's a small fishery (Cwm Hedd) 10 minutes away from me that's open all year and a bit more searching armed me with some winter fishing techniques (basically fish like Hedgehogs fornicate v...e...r...y slowly!). Light winds forecast for today so I decided to take the plunge and have a go a some December stocky bashing. Very glad I did as it's a smashing little fishery stocked with the same Rainbows I fish for up at Kennick and Ynys-y-fro. They bite obligingly and go like stink. I ended up with 4 mostly caught on a black Cormorant that had an orange throat hackle (I did take one on the orange Dog Knobbler that I had on a dropper as an attractor). The weather co-operated and there was even a small hatch of midges (I think they were midges) at lunchtime which even prompted a few Trouts to start surface feeding. I have to say the reel and line are excellent but the rod....the rod is an absolute belter!

Glad you like the rod Gizmo, and a bargain too.

Well done for putting a bend or two in it, looks a nice spot, if you ever want to fish the Tanks, let me know.

Did you get your warranty card though? My 6wt came without, it will be sent on later 'tis said.

Cheers

Mike

No Mike there was no warranty card and no mention of it arriving later. I'll have to chase them up (perhaps there's a good reason why these are 50% below retail). Thanks for the steer though its a cracker of a rod and at a bargain price, knocks spots of the others I've had

(p.s. what are the tanks? I've heard them mentioned on here before and have no idea what people are on about)

I emailed them when I found there was no card, and you should do so yourself.

They are authorised for Hardy and Orvis, so don't look like messers. [The Orvis guarantee is worth having.]

The [Barrow] Tanks are part of Bristol Water fisheries that include Chew and Blagdon, have a look here. Bristol Water Fisheries

Bank fishing only, but some season-ticket holders from the afore-mentioned venues have been gracing us peasants with their prescence more and more often.

You have to wonder why. Trouble is that the 8 fish day-ticket is going up by 50p next season to an extortionate £15.

Hang on I'll get me coat.....

I was thinking of travelling over your way to try Chew this winter for the Pike but that looks like a great spot to fish next year. I'll email the rod suppliers on Monday as you say the Orvis warranty is a good one to have.
