Default Google maps - rivers

Is it me, or have the rivers on google maps recently been mapped far better? I am sure that I never used to be able to see all of the smaller tributaries, now my gmap of sussex looks like a delta with every tiny tributary lit up.

For example, see this image: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&...m&z=11&vpsrc=6
I may have just not noticed all the tiny tributaries on there before... but it is unlikely !

Anyone else notice this, or know if it has changed recently?

Thanks,

N

they do look easier to see with light blue marking, what is new is the naming of the streams, see on your map Shortbridge Stream written over a long lake, that certainly was not there a few weeks ago, I own that lake and would have noticed.

the lack of detail of small streams and their names has bugged me about google maps for a while - I tend to use getamap from OS for more detail so it probably is new

I think you are right, just zoomed into my favourite spots in Wales and the tributaries are everywhere!

Well Spotted!

yes its getting better, nice thing about google maps you get to see where the farms and land owners are
so you can seek permision to fish there streams/rivers... ect

Cheers

More than welcome all, hopefully anyone interested in fishing small tributaries (like me) will be able to find a few more in their area that they can test. I was sure it was new, as I def would have noticed too. If you zoom in, even tiny puddles are well marked on there now.

I'll be doing my best next year to get a few more permissions from private land owners to get myself a little more water to cover, this should really help.

Best,

Nick

I use multimap and set it to an OS map, much easier to see the smaller streams etc, also labels them which is something I don't think google does.

What's 'happened' is the maps get periodically updated (new Sat pics). That happened here in Southern Oregon (roughly) last June/July. Interesting to scope down on my neighborhood and actually see my Jeep parked in the driveway in front of the house. With the new high resolution cameras on the 'spy in the sky's' the clarity is outstanding.

Even more fun is the second 'compass rose' on the screen so you can tip the view over and do a 'fly by wire' over an area. In this case the Rogue river. Very, very cool!
