Default Reservoir Rod

Hello.
I have now fished two reservoirs,Eyebrook from a boat and Farmoor on the bank on one occasion each. Have been using my 9ft 6 #7 rods/reels for both, would there be any significant improvement if i moved up to a 10ft #7 rod ? Any comments/advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Colin.

I have a 9.6ft 7# for bank work on large ressies, when in a boat I use 9ft 5# or 9ft 6# depending on weather. The 6# if very windy.

A 10' rod lets you bob the top dropper when boat fishing from a bit further away. This is probably the main advantage.

Colin the rods you have are rated for wt7, so they would be ok for di7 line. On the issue of the boat rod, i would use a 10.5 foot rod.

if ur looking for distance try looking for a stiffer rod and if 7wt try using an 8wt line on it

Colin.
10ft 6 gives a bit more control. It's what I use from a boat for everything except dry fly fishing when I use a 9ft or 9ft 6.

To be honest if I only had a 9ft 6 or 10 ft rod it wouldn't bother me one little bit.

Longer rods are great for working a bob fly. Greys used to do a 15ft 6/7 loch style rod called the long Lomond and Bruce and walker had two oin the same length and weight. The down side of long rods is that the put a lot of strain on the arm over the course of a day.

I've found almost no difference in casting distance whether with 9ft 6 or 10 ft rods or even between rods that are stiff or medium actioned.
