Default Line memory?

Not sure this is the case, but picked up some EF #7 floating line a few weeks back from Glasgow AC from their reduced bin. Cant remember the exact type but it was Scierra make.

It was reduced from 50 - 60 is to 30 quid (or there abouts) but thought, seems ok.

Put it on my reel, and when I first used it, it was all springy in the water grrrrr.

anyway, I put a bung on later on and after a bit the springs / coils seemed to go, but I think this was the bung pulling in the wind.

Anyway came to use it again the other day and I was back to square one.

Im pretty sure the line is ok, its just somehing I have / haven't done. Any hints on sorting this out?

I was thinking of soaking it in warm water then gently pulling it out?

Any hints would be great, cheers!

Your doing the right thing warming up the plastic and then gently straightening it out. Leave it straight until it completely cooled down. As a clearance line it has been too long on a spool. If this fails you may have to exchange the line for another.

Stand on a river bridge, let all the line out into the current let it hang for a few minutes then gently wind back onto reel.
cold weather makes any memory worse.

To be fair it has been in my boot for a bit too.

Probably over thinking this but, when I wind my line in, I tend to grip it in between my little finger and the one next to it, while moving left to right to give a little tension and spread it across the real.

Should I let it lie looser on the reel or is this ok?

Thanks for advice, gonna try warm bath method first then river method, mostly because one is in doors and it is snowing! :-)

There is no harm in applying a little tension to your line when you reel it in not too much mind. I'm assuming you use a large arbor reel?

How did you first wind it on to your reel?

It's important to wind lines on without introducing twist to them. If the line comes on a plastic spool then stick a pencil through the middle and employ the help of someone to hold either end of the pencil while you wind.

If the line just came in a coil, without the spool, just put a rolled up newspaper through the centre of the coil.

Whatever you do, don't just drop the coils of a new line on the floor and wind the line onto the reel - twist guaranteed!

It's not your fault. It's the maker's fault. It is possible to make lines with no memory whatsoever. There is little you can do except try the hot water treatment but it will be as bad again in a few weeks.

Thats why it's in the bargain bin.

Make sure the lamp post isn't on the other side of the road, otherwise you could be charged with decapitating a cyclist.

Also, ensure you use a swivel, otherwise the excercise is useless, it won't remove any twist, it will simply stretch the twist into the line, so the memory can now never be removed.
