Default 10 foot 7 weight

As a follow on to my new reel purchase (pair of Modula 75's, they've arrived and are cracking, very light for the size) I'm going to buy a new 10 foot 7wt in the New Year. As I previously mentioned I'm looking at the Snowbee Diamond as I have the 5/6 weight and it's a belter of a rod. After looking around though I've come up with some alternatives and wondered if anyone has any experience of them. The first is the Vision Atom 10' 7wt (would consider the vision attack as they seem to be discounted at the moment) and the other is the Wychwood Truefly 10' 7wt (I've had a Reddington Redfly2, Greys GRXi and a Wychwood HLS in this weight and size and couldn't get on with them) I've discounted the Sonik SK3 as there's another post on here saying that they are quite stiff to cast with. I have £100-120ish to spend so any other suggestions will be welcome. I usually fish small to medium stillwaters.

Orvis western 3.

Or, if they haven't gone yet, Chickenfish has 2 Hardys for sale at what seems to me, a great price.

Another vote for the Western 3, great rod for the now discounted price. Will be buying the 6wt for myself, but the 7wt is just as good.

Thanks lads much obliged. Sadly at £150ish it's just out of my price at the moment (who knows what the new year will bring). I can get the Vision Atom at £120 delivered and the Snowbee at about £130.

Sorry Gizmo, can't find the link, but I swear I've seen the Orvis advertised for £120. I'll keep looking because I still want the 6wt.

.....

OK, here's one, http://www.irishflyfishingshop.com/c...ce-p-1922.html 130 euros, delivered.

there's more.

Check out Anglers Rendezvous in Glasgow, they quite often have top make rods, used but quality at the price you are looking for.

An older B&W, or a Greys GRX, G series even, still solid rods.

E bay always worth a look also.

Foxons on line is another.

Good luck.

Just bought the 6wt Western 3, £108 delivered from the link in my last post. They still have the 7wt in stock, which I've tested. It's a proper tool and superb as a bank rod. They were designed for the U.K ressies.

A friend who has won the Brown Bowl rates the 6wt as the best boat rod he's tried. Midlander bought one for his dad on the same recommendation.

Good enough for an old duffer like me then, and an Orvis guarantee to go with it.

Good choice, great rods and they do not cost silly money.

Many thanks for the replies chaps. I decided I couldn't wait till January after all (you never know they might run out of fly rods by then) and have ordered an Orvis Western 3 10' 7wt thanks to brownsville's link and all the other recommendations. Thanks all

Damn! does this mean I have to dig out my gear and find an open (and probably expensive) fishery to try this stuff out

BTW an interesting read here on this style of rod http://www.soniksports.com/uploads/m...t.original.pdf

PPS just run the conversion and its £110 delivered, excellent price!
