Default rod handles?

Just been wondering: what's the logic behind theb different handle shapes on rods? In particular, why do 6wt and heavier have a full Wells, yet the grip you use is the same?

Just curious...

Matt, the grip is use will differ depending on what the purpose of my cast is.

if I am shooting for distance I will use a thumb n top grip, this is facilitated by a full well or reversed half well grip, if I ma fishing up close and personal such as on a river where accuracy is the key to success I use a modified finger on top grip. This is made easier by a cigar or half wells grip.

It may also have something to do with the weight of the handle, but that is a thought that only occurred to me while I was writing a response.

Would hazard a guess that that is the main reason!
The balance of the outfit would be greatly affected in lighter outfits(#6) downwards if full wells and butt stop was present.
Would make the lighter gear very much butt heavy.

I understand that Bert, but they must have different shaped handles for a reason and not just weight. And the only other reason is how you're supposed to grip the handle

From the basis of no knowledge whatsoever, I would suggest that the ridges in wells variants allow you to put more power through the grip at the points of contract, with less risk of the hand slipping. The cigar and western are for a softer, more comfortable grip that is shaped to a natural closing hand.

But then again I may have a womans hand

I really ask because I find the full Wells really cumbersome and uncomfortable - would much prefer cigar/ reversed half wells even on the heavier rods.

Matt is it full wells style or is it more to do with the size of the handle on the bigger rod? Reason I ask is I have the same problem with my greys grxi, but I think it is simply because the full wells on my 8wt is larger diameter than the half wells on the 6wt and its too large for my hand. Planning to sand down the handle on the 8wt to match the diameter of the half wells and I reckon that will solve my problem.
