Default trout stocking

Is it scottish law that states you cant stock rainbows in a scottish river ?Was just wondering as they seem to stock them in england ok, ie the test

But why would you want to stock rainbows when you can stock brownies ?

Interesting question. You would have to apply for a license to stock any fish in a Scottish river, and you wouldn't be granted a license to stock non indigenous fish species, so that in effect makes it illegal, does it not?

A lot of the Test & Itchen fisheries are now only stocking triploid brownies, certainly on the lower river sections. Rainbows are stocked in the mid/upper reaches, a few wanderers were caught after the all too rare rises in water levels in the lower fisheries on both rivers.

It was just something i wondered about,as for the answer about the salmon fraternity what is the difference between a brown trout and a rainbow put into the river as far as eating salmon eggs go,brown trout are now about £6 for a pound fish to stock:eek eek:
