Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting this rod for my birthday, hopefully with a free SK4 reel thrown in (some retailers have this deal on). Before I jump in and buy it and maybe regret it i'm after some opinions/reviews/other recommendations.

Not sure what sort of action you like?,but the one i tried ( 9'6''#7) was rather like trying to cast a broom stick.Many happy returns of the day

I don't think I've tried enough rods to be able to answer that question tbh but i would say fast'ish action. I've only had mid range cheap rods before which were... berkely technique and a couple of airflo rods. At the moment I only have and use one rod and that's an Airflo delta Classic 9'6' #6-7. I'm looking to spend between £150-300.

I just saw a thread on here from september 2009 of someone selling an Sk8 rod and someone else was willing to swap there sonik so I'm thinking they can't be that great!

Any other recommendations much appreciated!

They're as stiff as pokers Charlie,if you like the Sonik range of rods the sk4 is still fast and gets a lot better reviews.Maybe you can find a deal on those

Very VERY fast rods. Very nice finish, but I tried one recently when looking for a rod for pike / salmon and had an aching wrist in minutes. I settled on a Vision. So glad I did. Unless you like super fast, avoid.

For your clearly healthy budget though I'd look at Vision or Hardy Uniqua if you can stretch it.

Cheers mig. I guess I'm going to have to make a trip to fishtec where i can actually test the rods. You just can't tell what's what until you try it. Not saying I'll buy from them though there not the cheapest of tackle retailers! See my other thread about sage vantage.....ponderng one of those now!!

I'm sure that'll be a fine rod. If you get a chance do try the Uniqua - very nice casting rod. And if you try the budget-busting Hardy Demon you'll want one so stay away!

i have an sk8 9' #6 and had no problems a great rod reminds me of the g-tec with a different handle very fast action though so if ur not used to fast action rods can be awkward to cast
