Default Airflo Sweep lines

Guys
I've been reading and hearing a lot of talk about these Sweep lines but have a question.

If you cast it all out , count down to required depth then strip it back like mad surely the 'U' shape is straightened out and it is no better than the standard line?

If you use a steady to slow retrieve it will keep the 'U' shape?

What are your views? Are they just a gimmick ?

Hi GG,

The 5 & 3 sweep are awsome. Don't use the 7 much.

You're right that the faster you pull the more the 'u' shape get's straightened out but not by as much as you'd think.

I love to fish the 5 with a booby on the point. This exagerates that 'u' shape and it is deadly. When i'm out on a ressie early season and i'm not certain what depth the fish are at, i'm always on the 5 sweep.

They certainly aint no gimmick! Get the 5 and try it early season, you'll love it i'm sure.

From a fishing point of view - I don't think their a gimmick.

When they first come out I had these lines and various boat partners didn't, the catch rate was considerably higher on their days. Not saying everyday they out fish the standard fly lines, but when searching the layers with various retrieves, fast and slow, mixing it up the sweep lines seem to come into their own.

I recall the last day of the trout season on Llandegfedd, one of the boys was using a sweep taking into double figures and most of us using standard di3's and 5s just taking a few each.

Yes I know it could have been his flies, his retrieve or he just happened to land on the fish but there was a significant difference somewhere.

To out fish nearly every other boat (wasn't many out) on the lake using the sweep, they do come into their own, and being caught without one isn't a pleasant experience when you can't mimic that sinking pattern.

Kieron

I thought that 5 Sweep was the only line you had, Phil ??

Actually, I used to think they were a gimmick but also use the 5 quite a bit and now have all of them, 7 to be tried early next season. I am told the 7 was THE lien in the International on Harray this year. I think the Weslh had a consignment shipped up the day before the match, it made such a difference.

Yes that one time a year, if I remember correctly it was when I was practicing for the qualifiers on Rutland and using the 5 Sweep, I was giving my boat partner a proper going over

I remember when Airflo brought out the DI series to over come the problems with DT lines which had a belly that sank faster than the tip.
What is the difference between a Sweep line and a Double Taper/
