Default Willington lake and Loyton lake

I'm off for a weekend's fishing and want to try a couple of new places, ideally small waters which I can stalk at and these two came up. Does anyone know what they're like and how they're fishing lately?

Willington is a larger lake. When i went there all the fish were paked under the bridge that spans the lake. They were there because people were feeding them bread! Not sure if this still goes on but it did put me off the place. In fairness though, we did catch away from the bridge and they were reasonable fish.

Loyton is a big fish water and well maintained. Not fished there for a number of years but i always found the lakes a little crowded.

One venue in the area that i know is fishing very well is Seighford. Some huge fish have been coming out and the place is a fantastic fishery.

Loynton is good if thats your type of thing. Not really mine to be honest even though I live just round the corner from it. Deep coloured water bomb holes, can get a bit crowded at weekends, but fish size is good and seems to be well run to be fair, nice lodge. Ellerdine near Telford probably has more variety, also with good sized fish, including browns. Or Seighford near Stafford, as has been mentioned.

Edit - just seen your reference to stalking. Loynton and Elelrdine are too coloured for stalking although you can target rising fish. Swan Neck Pool at Seighford is clear water and sort of stalkable, but more like casting to rising fish again. Railway pool is coloured. I wouldn't really class any of them as stalking waters though.

Don't know how far away from Cheshire you are staying.
But, Westlow mere is fishing really well.
Also excellent value and surroundings.
Paul.

Looks like Willington is out. Seighford lakes looks good though, Phil Dixon owns and runs it so it should be Heard nothing but good about him.

Think Westlow Mere might be worth a trip next year in better weather for insect hatches. Next year's trip

By the way no reason to choose the area other than the closed eyes and pointed finger at google maps .

Thanks for the replies.

Stuart

The old Willington lake is now a Marina

DCAC run a members water situated near the river Trent next to Willington & is a members water.

I think Chickenfish is thinking of Barton Marina

Hope that helps
