Rule (3) One rod only set up at a time.

So no.

I would have to ask why does he need to fish two rods John. He can only hold one and as far as I am aware set lines are still illegal in Scotland.

Default Two rods

Hi John

Loch Ba is a stunningly beautiful loch and will be the first port of call once the wife allows me to buy my float-tube. I fished it on a sunny April day a few years ago. Was only once up there that it reminded us how high the moor actually is (1,000ft and very very exposed). Basically we were only a couple of hundred yards below the snow line and there was absolutely nothing doing. Also it is very shallow and weedy (even then)...had to hunt around for deeper channels.

It is a huge network and would be best to yomp to the more remote bays as the road side part of covered in balls of discarded nylon and bbq trays - just think, if you could catch them at it they would never find the bodies up there

Worth adding it is illegal and rather unsporting to use two rods for trout - unless your mate is intending to fish with one in each hand simultaneously If you are going up there why not take an extra flyrod and teach your mate if the fishing turns out to be sluggish.

Also worth noting that if he is long casting bubble floats using a spinning rod he is likely to deep hook fish...particularly small wild brownies.

In summary - if you are after lots of fish would be worth waiting till you don't need to wear your thermals...tight lines

Default Hillend Reservoir

Go to www.airdrie-angling.co.uk for full details of this loch.
As usual, someone who has probably never fished it and knows it only by mis-spoken reputation tries to put the boot in.

It is probably the best value loch in Central Scotland, just west of Airdrie. Stocked weekly with rainbows and browns. On the first day three of us fishing the fly had about fifteen fish between us. Rainbows up to 5lb and two browns over 3lb. All returned.

Neds are in very short supply and would certainly be chased of the loch if they put in an appearance. Yes, there is a litter problem but it is no worse than any other loch and there is a regular litter patrol. Use the litter bins provided.

At this time of year it is very busy at the weekends but it is a big loch and can usually cope.

As for using two rods - what kind of an animal is your mate?

look guys, i know it is against the law to use 2 rods but try telling that to 80% of anglers on most lochs that allow bait fishing in scotland.
you cant teach and old dog new tricks. ive tried before and failed
if i said i was looking for a coarse water for my mate i probably wouldnt have been slagged here.

thanks to all for the usefull info. hillend looks a good place on their site.will probably give this a go in the future with my fly fishing mates.

thanks for the info
