Smile Practical and easy way to toe an Assist Hook

Hello Anglers friends from UK

Yesterday I completed a quick video for my PJS. This time is "Pulpito Jig Series # 10: Tying an Assist Hook".

In this video, given that I use the assist hook setting very often, I though to explain a practical and easy way to tie an assist hook for your spoons and jigs. At least, this way works very well with me.

In the last four years or more, I have used this way of hooking in my spoonflies and jigs. I believe it is more effective than using a treble hook for this kind of lures.
Beyond that, I have removed every treble hook from the Krocodile, Hopkins, Acme, etc. spoons that I bought, changing them by assist hooks.

Please, notice that this time like others, I used a double line for more security and resistance. In this case, I used a 50 lb Tuf-Line Premium Braided Dracon, by two, it will resist 100lb.

As always, your comments are welcome. Thank you for watching this video, I hope you will enjoyed.

Here is a picture of my settings (if you want to see how to do these spoons, look to Pulpito Jig Series #9: The Great "Attila")

May be some Dire Straights or even Deep Purple for music, But thats just me!
Now to your hook link!! Coming from an area where commercial fishing is renowned and having spent many hours hauling mackerel, cod, Pollock etc with multi hook feather rigs and perps your tying just wouldn't be practical for time and tangle reasons, all that is needed is in-line dropper loops, so your rig would look like this.

What are you fishing for GT or the likes?

I quite liked the music. The set up seems a little bit unnecessarily overly complicated

Hello again Marazion

In my next video I promise to add Dire Straits, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Camel...etc... some true rock and real progressive music...

After looking at your picture, it seems to be very effective. I will try your set up with some flies that I do and use, when I am in places without obstacles and I can do free casts.

The fishing that I practice most here is saltwater inshore. I use a 7' spining rods (casting 60-70 yards) or surf rods 9' or 10.6'(casting 110 yrds). It depends on the conditions and characteristics of the sea shore.
Rarely I fish on board (only for trolling).
The saltwater species that I look for are fluonders and seatrouts, mero, snook, wahoo, etc.

I am attaching a picture of myself with a 22lb seatrout (here we called it Corvina) that I catched using my spoonfly "Corvina Catcher" (video Pulpito Jig Series # 3). The corvina fought very hard, and I used a 20lb line.

Just to finish, I did not understand what did you mean with "fishing for GT". would you please explain me?.

Kind regads from Peru, Jose Antonio

When I said GT I was referring to giant trevally.
Thats a nice fish but not like our sea trout which are like this.

I would of thought it better if your casting weight or perp was at the end of your set up with a treble hook in it, would aid casting and less chance of a tangle!! but saying that you seem to be catching well enough.
What part of the world are you fishing.
Mike
PS thats the music to fish to

Antonio, I did not mean to sound rude. Your Corvina speaks for itself, great fish. There is no improvement needed . Yes we have fun .

Hello Chris

thank you for your comment... the capture of that Corvina was incredible ... The conditions in the shore were not good. The sea was a little shaky and very windy. The waves were also veru agressive and strongs, so you had to be very careful.

After fighting for 20 long minutes, I took it away. In case I will catch a similar fish, I have promised to myself that next time I will release the Corvina.

Cheers from Southamerica, Jose Antonio
