Default Sharpley Springs, Seaham

Hi, I was wondering if anyone in the North East has fished Sharpley Springs in Seaham, County Durham. Gonna be staying up there in Seaham over Christmas and was pondering taking the fishing gear up there with me. Is it worth a visit? Anyone recommend any other stillwaters in that area that might be open on boxing day and are worth a check? Thanks

Fished both, Sharpley can be over fished but get some big fish. I think Aldin has a Boxing Day Special on including lunch, give Mick a ring I have found him a good lad and the fishery in good

Fished there on Saturday. 10 fish on a 4 hour C&R ticket for £9.
It was very windy and in these conditions the fish tend to lie close to the down wind bank.
The fish were pumped up with the high oxygen content of the water and even the smaller fish fought like Hell.
Best value for money in the area.

make sure you are well wraped up and then add some layers cos it is the most wind swept site i have ever fished you might head to the fishing hut but be prepared for sarcasm and ribbing from the lads who "work" there.
my own personal opinion.

Quite often the wind is the key to a good days fishing at Sharpley. The resulting water movement means the fish have to keep moving and as a consquence, feed.

It all helps.

As to the banter, grow a thick skin and give as good as you get.

EHUP! Went there with my dad and brother yesterday. Was my dad's first crack at fly fishing, we'd kitted him out for Christmas. Despite the strong winds we all managed to catch, cracking place! Will deffo be going back next Christmas
