Default Windy tomorrow!!!

I'm going fishing tomorrow with my brother up at Barnsfold. The Met Office have issued a weather warning saying its gonna be quite windy, 21mph backed with 43mph gusts. As a fledgling novice angler, I was wondering just how difficult it could be tomorrow with regards to casting etc. Whats the most difficult conditions anyone else has fished & what were your experiences? Thanks!

Forget overhead casting and just roll cast, you'll get as far and still catch..wind in central Scotland will average 40mph tomorow.was pretty **** today.

Make sure you wear a hat with a peak or brim and glasses of some sort and probably a coat with a hood. The possibility of you hooking yourself increases as it gets windier. I wouldn't fancy Barnsfold in those conditions, it's pretty exposed to Westerlies and standing with your back to it on the dam wall you'll feel like it's 40mph gusting to 60.

My advice would be save your visit for another day.

Spuggy

I have to tell you that when it's windy, it's an explicative deleted gale at Barnsfold
However, it's perfectly possible to cast and to catch.
The wind is forecast to be SW to Westerly so you'll find a bit of shelter behind the trees at the far end to where you enter.
the winds been settled into that quarter for a while so the corners it's blowing into can be productive.
Be warned, if you are fishing into it on the northern shore, it's quite shallow at that end so weighted flies and/or sinking lines are liable to snag the bottom.

Good luck and please post how you get on - I may be up there Sunday myself.

Ach it's always windy like that up here ! Was out today in a blowing gale and managed 8.........absolutely essential to wear eye protection (glasses)....hood up is also a good idea. If your a right hander try and get the wind blowing from your left side (so its effectively blowing your line away from you) blowing from the right side will cause a lot of casting problems. Don't arialise (?) as much line as you normally would and try hauling to punch it out.
I tend to use shorter leaders in wind to keep down the risk of tangles .

It's always surprising how good the fishing can be on hellish weather days.

Wrap up warm and enjoy it.
