Default dropper rollers

been using hends roller droppers recently, absolute pain to put together - don't even attempt it bank side, but have far less "twisted" droppers. question is how to place them -tried tippet rings below them on the leader but then they don`t rotate as well so just put a simple knot below them in the leader. this has been fine until a smash take on a buzzer (by a big `un) completely snapped the leader. convinced it was at the knot below the roller.
any suggestions what else to try with rollers??
ps fluro droppers tied to rollers on a co-pol leader
regards ed

I like to use the rollers for my Seatrout fishing.
I don't know the name of the knot I use but............ Make a loop and pass one end through 4-5 times then pull up tight. For added security add a dab of fishing super glue.

On the leader.
For the dropper..... Make a loop....... using one end of the line I make a slipknot using the same method (if that makes sense).

I've always found that if you 'stop' a Hends roller with a 4 turn blood knot it works well.

So, point fly, 50cm blood knot, roller, 50cm, blood knot, roller, 80 to 100cm then dual coloured indicator works pretty well.

However, although I think that rollers are fine, I no longer use them.

I use the Hendz rollers for 'booby' fishing on shooting heads on the likes or Farmoor.

My usual set up is a di7 40+ fly line, and leader depended on the depth of the fish. Usually around 15 -17 feet - 4 feet to a 4 turn water knot (roller slid down to that), and then the remainder below to the point fly.

I've found to get the best movement of the fly, especially boobies (makes hell of a difference!) is to use longer and lighter droppers. Up to 1.5feet in length, this then gives you a longer 'drop' from your fly line which can be altered depending on the depth of the fish.. shortened/ deeper lengthened/higher, and in 7lb breaking strain as opposed to the usual 8lb mainline.

I've found the 4 turn water knot to be the best and strongest knot to use below the roller.

It's also great when you get a double header as the top one isn't fixed, if the fish on the point makes a lunge it has 4-5 feet of leeway to pull through the roller until the braided loop. I'm yet to get snapped anyway. Although i know this isn't possible when river fishing..

cheers,Kieron

Four turn water knot is the boy for the roller to rest on.
I had a real play with these things a few years ago, I liked them but they are fiddly and I'm still struggling to see the benefit, on most applications.
Jenkins is right though, when Booby fishing they can play their part, these and Rapala knots.

I tried them once and gave up on them, now i just use tippet rings. What i now tho is smear a tiny amount of superglue on the dropper line from the ring knot and a cm up the up the line. This stops any tangles as the leader cant twist around the main line and stands proud from it

thanks, but i`m trying to limit the number of knots in the leader. basically i start with a tapered leader (co-pol or fluro ) then slide the rollers on and add a knot beneath each. i then tie the droppers to the roller. if i use a tippet ring (which i do anyway for the last section of the leader to have enough line to keep changing the point fly without shortening the overall leader length) on each dropper i will end up with 9 knots before i even put a fly on. also, would superglue affect the strength of fluro?
ps as a novice am i getting "hung up" on technicalities???
thanks for everyones advice

Sounds like a lot of knots to me,with tippets rings your down to six on a three fly cast.I use fluoro as a tippet material and if you mean will superglue affect fluoro because of what i posted then the answers no as you don't actually put it on the knot but just above it
