Default 2nd Rod?

Thinking of getting myself a 2nd rod but after some recomendations.

At the moment I have a Ron Thompson #7/#8 9`6" rod. It was £50 and tbh has been great to get me started.

Now I am thinking of getting another rod but cant decide wether or not to just buy the same rod again (so I can have 2 setups) or to push the boat out a little.

I definitely want a #7 as this way I wont need to replace my lines, and I will just need to get a new reel (the same as my current one).

What would you do?

Also should add, at the moment pretty much fish stillwater all of the time.

Why oh why would you need to buy a new reel to use the same lines that I assume are already on a reel?

So I can have 1 dry line setup and 1 intermediate setup. This way I dont need to worry so much about switching lines/setups.

I just splashed out £26 on Sumo xs rod from ebay. I find it not a bad rod for the price. Check out the Airflo delta reel, in the reels for sale on here. A lot of the guys on here swear by the shakey odessy rods.

The Shakey rods are lovely rods for the price. Great VFM.

Leeda Profile reels - what smashing bits they are for the price - unbelievable! Try Grommit as I think he does these reels.

If not, drop me a line and I will try and sort you out something in a cartridge reel line otherwise the Profile reels in my humble opinion

Best of luck and have fun selecting!

Here's another vote for the Leeda Profile great value for money reel but why don't you go slightly lighter for the dry set up? I use a 5/6wt for my floating line dryfly setup and a 7wt intermediate for my nymph and lure fishing. Shakey Odyssey great vfm rods and so is the Fladen Vantage range.

You've found a rod that suits you. So stick with it - even buying a £500+ rod won't add 5 yards to your casting distance or make you more accurate. Nor will it necessarily have better cork. You may buy another type of rod and hate it. Rods are like that!

Another vote for the Leeda Profil and Shakey Oddysey, that's my Stillwater setup and it cost £50 all in! Coupled with a Barrio/Pirate line and for £70 you're fishin'.

Rob.
