Loch Leven
Well i decided to take the dog for a walk the day up around part of Loch Leven, as i crossed a bridge at Burleigh sands i was confronted with white bellies sticking up from the mud , i stopped and looked and i counted 6 dead brown trout, and noticed 1 that was barely alive , half its back sticking out the water and its mouth , head and fins were white like a fungus.
i tried taking a picture with my phone but that was useless.
I carried on walking to the shore of the Loch and noticed my dog rolling in a trout.
I went to get her only to find a further 9 trout and the stink was so bad i was dry heaving and it takes a lot to make me heave.
I stopped to talk to a few people i knew and they told me they had seen a few more further round out on the sand.
I came home contacted the SNH but no one answered so i left a voice msg.
I then contacted SEPA who were very polite and interested, the woman i spoke asked for my details and said someone will be in touch and 15 - 20 mins later i got a phone call from someone higher up in SEPA.
And it sounds like they will get someone to go out to the Loch tomorrow to have a look around and check the water and will get back to me to let me know what is happening.
and that they will talk to the SNH to see if they were aware of this problem.
At no point on my walk did i see any notices or signs up warning me of blue green algae or pollution in the water, as it is at a part of the Loch where dogs often go for a swim / paddle.
