Default animal rights!

In this day & age, do you think we need to use as much natural fur & feathers as we do in our tying? Just a thought as a lot of anglers fish lures.

nope.
unless you are tying classic salmon flies, there is always a manufactured or sustainable substitute

Animals are food, deal with it.

Apparently a Peter Ross is only a Peter Ross if it is tied with red seal.

I don't actually see the point of this thread, just more bait/bullets for some loony from PETA or similar.

I'll use whatever I want and it's so much better making a fly with traditional materials - why fix it if it ain't broken.

Quite right, OP.

It's the turkeys that I feel sorry for. 2% of their meat eaten at Xmas before being consigned to the dustbin and their feathers handed over to ignorant lure pullers.

It's a blot on the fair name of our gentle art.

If we weren't meant to eat animals then why are they made of meat?

I was at a delightful Dinner Party for a lovely friend's 50th Birthday. One of her guests was a retired director from GSK.

As soon as he mentioned this, one of the guests suddenly launched at him asking him whether he felt Animal Testing was right or wrong and immediatley carried on lambasting him before he could even reply.

She continued her tirade for 30mins in the middle of a Dinner Party.

Shameful.

However, I dont feel the OP is stirring trouble but asking a perfectly reasonable question if there are alternatives.

In that vein, I think we, as fisherman, are actually guilty of one thing - recycling!

Very, very few of our materials are harvested JUST for our use. The vast majority are by-products that would otherwise be waste.

Hence, perhaps PETA should award us a sustainability award and Stella McCartney should so at the next PETA meeting
