Think it is an Irish term for a trout that hangs out close to the sea in estuaries and not to far up river. They definately exist, rem some fellas catching them in Galway.

Chris.

I believe a slob trout is a trout that has chosen to frequent the brackish
waters at the river mouth, and believe it is a natural brown trout.

Not just an Irish term but as already said, a brown trout that feeds in the brackish, inter-tidal area. I've only ever seen one at that came from the lower Teifi, a very distinct fish and most definitely not a sewin.

We catch quite a few on the lower Lune beats.
They have the size of a good seatrout but are extremely heavily coloured.
It can be a bit confusing for the less experienced seatrout anglers on the river.

Yeah slobs like that brackish estuarine habitat , and Christy is correct the locks and tidal canals in Galway city support a good head which reach a fair size have caught fish over four pounds personally and seen bigger . Dry sedges at night under the street lights are a good bit of sport.....PJ
