Default newton farm fishery wormit

just a quick update to let everyone know that newton is STILL OPEN as we have had a few fishermen telling us they have heard we are shut..the fish are now showing well and were taking blood worm buzzers .we had 3 guys up yesterday and they had 27 fish between them on c/r tickets .so help us squash these silly rumours we are open .open.open.

Hi Dan, a wee idea or two to help, hopefully.

Why not stick a weekly reports page on your website - and keep it up to date? Out of date report pages are worse than no reports, too many fisheries neglect this and it looks bad, it's like the owner can't be bothered. and that can arouse suspicion that perhaps he's not that bothered about the fishery generally? Doesn't project a positive image...

Sites that lack reports can give the impression that there's no fishing activity. And with Newton's record of repeated/extended closures etc it's not that surprising that rumours start, I don't think a single post on a thread like this will make a big difference in your attendance. People more and more these days look for their information via Google etc.

Why not put a weekly catch report to local papers? The St Andrews Citizen runs a column like that through the summer but no mention of Newton or indeed Cameron Resr in that, why not??? It'd be free advertising for guys like you. Last time I saw this there was only information from (I think)Golden Loch. which is a lot farther away from St Andrews than Newton or Cameron.

Or - stick up a decent looking sign at the junction where your wee road meets the Glenrothes/Dundee main route? Next to the bus yard. A simple one, just NEWTON FISHERY OPEN! would get seen by all the passing Dundee commuters - and there could be thousands of those. Word wouldn't be long getting around with a bit of coverage like that.

cant answer for Newton but Cameron Res. is ran by St Andrews angling club and has a full quota of members who pay handsomley to fish there through a very limited season, therefore have no need to advertise or make money from day ticket sales, although day tickets are avaliable.
