Default Season ticket on the River Calder

Hi all, first post!

I was thinking of getting my father a season ticket to fish the river Calder near halifax for Christmas. Does anyone on her own one? I have heard it is £20 a year, does this allow fishing anytime? Is it quite easy fishing? Are waders required?

Thanks for any info,

Roland

Hi Roland,
The year books run from January to the end of December, your dad can fish throughout the year for trout and grayling, the only time you can't fish is between the 16th March which is the end of the grayling season to the start of the trout season which is beginning of April. Waders are required, waist or chest would be best,. You can purchase the year bboks from the post office in Sowerby Bridge or Jewsons Tackle in Halifax. Have a look at my website for some pictures of the river and details of where to fish etc.
Hopes this helps,
Gary.

Gary coarse season ends on the 14th mate

Coarse fish close season
It is unlawful to fish for coarse fish from 15
March to 15 June inclusive on any river,
stream, drain or waterway (other than
canals).

Your slipping Bruce...Gary got the other bit wrong too

There are 9 days when you cant fly fish on the Calder....between the 15th March and the 25th of March when the Trout season opens once more
As a side note ...bait (maggots, worms, swetcorn etc) remain illegal on rivers (after 15th March) until the start of the coarse season June 15th.

Thought we'd better clear all issues as there are regional variation from 'byelaw'.
Hope Roland wasn't too quick off the mark

Your spot on Bruce1, its me having a moment and confusing the date of the start of the course season with the end.
Gary.
