My son recently moved to birmingham uk and would like to meet other keen fly fisherman in the birmingham area . thank's from R.S.A

Bad news first, there aren't any fly fishing clubs in Birmingham, at least none that I'm aware of. Birmingham and immediate surrounds is something of a trout desert. There is however some great river fishing for wild trout anywhere from an hour to two hours drive from Birmingham (Wales, Derbyshire etc).

Good news, I'm from SA and live in Birmingham and would be happy to show your son around - it would help if he has a car though as I don't and public transport narrows down the options significantly!

I might also add that there are several stillwater trout options a little closer to Birmingham, Packington Fisheries (near the airport) being the closest. I don't fish stillwaters, but if your son does and wants some info, send me a P.M. with his contact e-mail and I'll be happy to pass on the info.

What about the River Penk? I always drive over it on my way from Brum to Glasgow? It is around 20 miles outside Brum and it seemingly has trout in it?
