Ciao Jon and sorry for my english....
Our technique was born around 50 years ago expecially to combat the fast water and to put the fly under the bush.
Anyway, I came to England invited at the BFFI, two or three time and I sow the english anglers when they cast, and I understood that our style is very different from your style, I don't say that is better than your, but just different.
For me the difference are:
1) lenght rod
2) weight line
3) lenght leader
4) how we use plain of cast
5) coverage of space cast
6) speed of cast
7) thrust given to the end (forward cast)
8) no stop back cast and forward cast
9) angle of cast from water and line
10) arrival of the fly on the water before leader and line
These are the some elements that I thought but I think there are others.
I repeat, I want to say that italian is not better that english, but just different.
Ciao
Max
