Nowadays when many customers shop on-line, why on earth don't the manufacturers put size charts on their websites that show what S, M, L, XL, XXL etc all mean in inches

There appears to be no standard definition of sizes and one manufacturers XL is another's M. It just prevents prospective purchasers from buying (or rather, forces them to buy a competitors product where the actual size is shown - Greys, take note!)

I don't disagree. However actual sizes can be just as misleading.

A size L vest is for a 50" chest !!! .......I think not.

I'm about a 41" chest, usually a medium - tried a M Simms vest - a bit skimpy - a size L is perfect on me.
