Default Your targets/purchases for the 2012 season?

I've just come back to fly fishing this year, in fact all kinds of fishing after a 30 year break and what I've really enjoyed is replacing all of my equipment which was stolen back then, but now the trout fishing I've been doing has ended and I need very little to complete my kit so it's a bit of an anti-climax and now I find myself impatiently planning ahead for the 2012 season!

My targets are to tie a full season's worth of flies during the winter months (once I've located my fly tying kit in the loft), join two or three NE England river fishing clubs for the 2012 season and get the only other thing I'm lacking, a pair of decent quality thigh waders!

No doubt I'll find other fishing related items to spend my money on ( well you do, don't you ) but by and large, I've now got all I need to fish for trout, migratory fish and even pike so, that's me sorted.

The thing I'm most looking forward to is fishing the trout rivers I fished in my youth up in the NE of England and the borders - I've always worked for myself, so I can take time off whenever I want and I'll be popping up to my caravan to spend lots of time fishing the local rivers, whenever time allows - I really can't wait!

So what are your targets for 2012 and what are you most looking forward to?

Tony

I hit 65 next year so all I want is continued good health to carry on fishing and enjoy it as much as I have in the past. I have no specific targets but it would be nice to catch a salmon bigger than 14lbs which is my best so far.

I joined Prince Albert A S this year but have only fished two rivers. My target is to get out there and fish as many rivers as my free time will allow.Unfortunately, I run a fishing club so a lot of my time is spoken for.

I hope to join Northumbrian anglers federation and conquer the coquet. I also intend spending a bit of time getting to know the upper Derwent a little better. I am hoping to tie lots of useful flies this winter and maybe catch a few more grayling before Xmas.

What is the upper Derwent like to fish?
I have my caravan sited not far from Castleside so it's sort of only just down the hillside to the river.

The upper Derwent is a beautiful river. Rugged and wild in places. Lots of fun to fish and quite a challenge. See the cover story in this months trout and salmon.

I'm in the process of taking up fly fishing, putting together my list for Santa

I hope to target trout, grayling and pike, it would also be nice to hook into a chub and perch too.

My first target however is to learn to cast, so I'm looking for local tuition.
