Default Wader maintenence help

Hi folks, I bought some waders a few months back, Orvis Pro Guide. As they were second hand I had no info with them. I have never owned a decent pair before. I was wondering the best way to maintain them. At the mo after use, I hang them up to air/dry and pack them into their bag ready for next time. Anything else I should be doing? Sponge them down perhaps? The boots I just leave by the fire to dry for a few days...

I'd be grateful for any advice please.

Chris.

Chris,

I hang mine in the shed for a day then pack them in the bag, never had an issue.

Have a look here, some tips on cleaning.

I wash and reproof mine in the same way you would for any other piece of breathable clothing (Goretex and the like), but by hand in the bath. The reproofing also makes the surface more slick and cuts down on the friction that wears seams and so on.

And watch drying your boots by the fire if they are leather because it will dry them out too much, especially if they start to cook a bit! Much better to dry them in a cool air current somewhere, maybe stuffed with regularly changed newspaper. And you can reproof them with dubbin or one of the more modern liquids (from Grangers or Nikwax).

Hiope that's some help? If you search for 'reproofing' you'll find Sandy's great instructions on washing and reproofing . . . .
