Excellent Mr T. I must have missed that particular episode.

Interesting to note one part which sometimes ends up with anglers damaging their reel when trying to dismantle the drag. The left hand thread screw holding it together.

Interesting.

I've come across a few of these types of blogs on other forums:

How to make a Fly Reel

As somebody who needs instructions to change a plug, I find these totally amazing.

I read an even better one which was posted in stages as it was being built - followed it right through but can't find it. Will post it up if I do.

Stunning SBS Don, thanks for putting it up, what a clever fella.
I watch the "How it's Made" programme a lot on channel 38 Quest, 10.00pm each night, not every night, you understand, I'm not that sad.
But I love to see things being manufactured, and the speed at how it gets done.
Thomas and Thomas were making a cane fly rod the other week, someone tying salmon flies etc, right down to producing blank CD's, fascinating stuff, if you like that sort of thing.

It shows how much basic work is still done by hand - even in a CDC engineered reel.

cheers,

Love the attention to detail on the home made reel.

This isn't fishing related, but for garage engineering his work and write up is excellent, he basically builds jet engines in his garage, and tests them on his driveway

Check out the Eclectic Angler, I made 2 reels last winter copying the website, he sells kits
just think how cool it would be to use your own reel with your own built rod and your own tied flies?easker1
