Default The One Rod You Wouldn't Part With

We all probably own one or two rods but what's the one you wouldn't part with and why ? For me it's my 8'6"' Winston DL4 #4, disliked it at first because of it's oh so slow and gentle action and very nearly parted with it but have now been blown away by it's ability to place the fly on a sixpence without so much as a splash of disturbance on the water. It's a companion for life.

Sorry Tim, can't keep it to one rod.
Winston B11t 8.6ft #4, closely followed by Sage SLT 8.6ft #4 a total classic, the best rod Sage ever made IMO.
And for the bigger fish,my 9ft #5 Scott V2, it will handle anything with aplomb.

Just like Steven, there are a few I would be very sad to part with! My Harris Cane Rod is with me for life; and I've absolutely fallen in love with my One Ounce! The Hardy Classics are also very dear to me and I have no intention of parting with them. That's the stream rods only!

Can fully understand why you wouldn't part with any of these lovely rods mentioned so far. Have never swung a quality cane rod Mostyn, are they like the silk lines and take a bit of caring about or are they straight in the bag after fishing with and ready for the next visit to the river ?

If it had to be One I would stick with my Sage Z Axis 11ft switch rod, just becouse I love casting and fishing with it.
All the best.

As you might imagine I have a few rods..But I can say that I have NO rod that I would be devastated to lose.I would just get another of similar type. It's me that makes the rod work to my liking,or not.Slow rods ,fast rods, mid to tip rods.10 minutes to get used to the action and I'll fish with it all day,and at the end of the day it will have been just another tool and if I feel that it was not a good tool I will have got rid of it..I pick my rod from the pile according to what i'm going to be doing.and believe me, I do lots of different types/styles of flyfishing.I have a couple that get picked more often than others, but thats down to a fishing style that i do a bit more than the rest.

PS Expensive does not neccesarily mean good,as cheap does not have to mean bad.

Jim

I'm in agreement with Jim, on this one. I've got rods for different styles of fishing, most are all different makes or models. Why stick with 1 rod, when you can have so many more.

hard to state just one rod, but I wouldnt want to part with a hardy ultralite 10' #7 or my TH cane...and a couple of other rods too - JMC 11'6 #3/4, hardy sirrus 11'#6, but it all depends where and how are you fishing, if I change the waters I fish most often, than maybe Ill want to replace some of the rods...
